Mission
Timshel Collective Fund exists to foster creative Christ-centered generosity and communal giving.
The Hebrew word Timshel translates to the phrase “Thou Mayest”, which refers to man’s ability to freely choose redemption no matter the depth of our sin. It is our hope that as a community of believers, members of Timshel Collective will make the intentional choice to generously participate in God’s work to redeem and restore this broken world. Through this act of communal giving, we urge one another to contribute “what we have in our hands” (1 Chron. 29:14-16) into a collective fund for the purpose of charitable giving. As our fund grows, we gather annually to deepen our relationships, learn about what God is doing in this world, and wrestle with how He may be calling us to generously and sacrificially participate in it.
Core Values
1. Community – Cultivating a Kingdom Community
At the core of this fund is an opportunity to cultivate a Kingdom community. Through this fund, we seek to love one another in such a way that refines us to look more like Jesus. This means we approach one another with a gracious and humble spirit and embrace one another with unconditional love. The fellowship aspect of this project should never be exchanged for the business part of this project. We cultivate community by intentionally planning a time of meaningful connection at our annual gathering. As the fund grows, we hope to grow deeper in our love for one another.
2. Transparency – Fostering Integrity and Accountability
We are committed to being transparent with our lives and our giving. We cultivate transparency by asking members to share openly about what they are committing to financially give each year. We also cultivate transparency by intentionally seeking to listen and honestly share what is going on with one another, and earnestly praying for one another as well as the ministries we desire to support. Our value of transparency also provides accountability for us as a group to give.
3. Generosity – Giving to the Lord with Open Hands
We give to the Lord “what we have in our hands” (Exodus 4:2) with joy. We celebrate with one another’s ability to give regardless of the amount given. Because of this, we do not set a required minimum giving amount. This open hands mentality also applies to generosity with our knowledge sharing – as we learn more about how this process works, we offer our resources to those around others who may be interested in replicating our fund.
4. Generativity – Giving that is Sustainable
Through the Timshel Collective Fund, we seek to cultivate Christ-centered generosity that multiplies throughout many generations. It is our hope that our children would grow up witnessing communal generosity and be inspired to continue this practice. Generativity also defines our strategic planning and financial strategy.
5. Learning – Citizens of Heaven and Ambassadors to Earth
We seek to be lifelong learners as followers of Christ. We foster learning through asking members to read and reflect on a resource annually as well as participate in a group discussion at our gathering. In addition, we encourage members to learn more about what God is doing to positively impact current issues in the world by nominating organizations for the group to give.
